Quail Springs Mall Holiday Season Blood Drive Set – December 7

Quail Springs Mall invites all OKC-area residents to get in the giving spirit this holiday season by donating blood. Each donor can save as many as three lives. OCAST board approves seven for Intern Partnerships program

Seven Research and Development Intern Partnerships Tuesday were approved for funding at a total of $320,780 by the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology (OCAST). Awards approved this week support undergraduate student internships in biotechnology, cyber security, climate, energy and aerospace. Awards are for up to two-year internships. Ihop Bedlam Fundraiser To Run Through Dec. 7

Now through the night of the Bedlam football game, Dec. 7, visit IHOP and show support for your team by buying OSU or OU paper footballs posted around the restaurant with proceeds benefitting the Children’s Hospital Foundation, an affiliate of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in Oklahoma City. Alzheimer's Disease: Myths and Realities

Despite advances in knowledge brought about by research, there is much about Alzheimer’s disease that remains unknown or not well understood. Observing National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness month, local and national organizations step up efforts throughout November to make the public more aware of the disease through discussion and education. While Alzheimer’s disease is only one form of dementia, it is the most common, accounting for nearly 50 percent of dementia cases. Linda A. Hershey, M.D., Ph.D., OU Physicians neurologist, describes Alzheimer’s as a progressive neurologic disease of the brain which leads to the irreversible loss of neurons. Andrews Inducted into Hall of Fame

M. Dewayne Andrews, M.D., senior vice president and provost, OU Health Sciences Center and executive dean, University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, was formally inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame at a ceremony held last month.The Hall of Fame was established in 1994 to recognize and honor individuals, living and deceased, for outstanding meritorious service to higher education in Oklahoma. Youth Tobacco Survey Provides E-cigarette Use Rates for OK Youth

New data on tobacco use among Oklahoma youth indicate a significant number of youth are trying electronic cigarettes. Research shows that youth who are exposed to tobacco use are more likely to become regular tobacco users, and public health officials are concerned the same will be true of e-cigarettes and vapor products. Oklahoma has no state law prohibiting the sale of e-cigarettes and vapor products to youth, unlike laws that restrict youth access to other tobacco products. To read the entire article, click here.
