Posted on 11/13/2017

Oklahoma Blood Institute is bringing a game plan to save lives at upcoming blood drives.  Anyone, 16 years old or older*, is urged to donate blood at one of the following drives:

  • Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church In Honor of Barbara Strackbein; Fellowship Hall at 1441 SW 104th Street; OKC, Sunday, Nov. 19, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Star Spencer High School; Auditorium at 3001 N. Spencer Road; Monday, Nov. 20, 8:30. to 11:30 a.m.  Sign Up with Ms. Fletcher.

Each blood donor can select an OU crimson or OSU orange “Win from Within” t-shirt.  Donors will also receive free health screenings and Donor Rewards points redeemable at Oklahoma Blood Institute’s online store.

“Whether it is a trauma or ongoing treatment for cancer or other life-threatening conditions, someone needs blood every two seconds,” said John Armitage, M.D., president and CEO of Oklahoma Blood Institute. “That is why we are asking everyone to rally their community spirit along with their team spirit this football season.”

Of those eligible to donate blood in the United States., only ten percent actually do so, even though blood donation only takes about one hour and has a tremendous life-saving impact.  Each donation can save the lives of up to three local patients.  People with rarer, negative blood types are especially urged to give. Donations can be made every 56 days.

Oklahoma Blood Institute is a non-profit blood center serving more than 160 hospitals across the state. Its volunteer blood donors provide every drop of blood needed by patients in all metro-Oklahoma City area medical facilities.

Appointments for the blood drives are not required, but can be made by calling 877-340-8777 or visiting www.obi.org.
