Outdoor Sculpture Selected for Dean McGee Eye Institute

The Oklahoma Health Center Foundation (OHCF) and Dean McGee Eye Institute (DMEI) announced the artists and work selected for an outdoor sculpture. The work of art will be located at Stanton L. Young and Lincoln Boulevard on the Oklahoma Health Center campus. The team of Shan Shan Sheng and Mark Dziewulski of San Francisco, Calif., were chosen out of more than 50 artists from around the U.S. and Canada.

The project is a multi-dimensional glass sculpture titled New Horizon. It is approximately 10 feet tall and 18 feet wide and made up of 47 panels of stained bullet-proof glass mounted to a steel frame.

"We are very excited by this project," said David Parke, II, M.D., president and CEO of the DMEI. "We wanted a very notable piece - easily seen by drivers and pedestrians. The art is illuminated at night and will be a spectacular gateway to the Oklahoma Health Center."

Dr. Parke also announced that his father, David Parke, Sr., also a physician, is donating DMEI's share of the sculpture's funding.  Proceeds from the OHCF's Treasures for Tomorrow events 2006-2008 provide the remaining funding.

Shan Shan Sheng is an artist of great accomplishment. In her 20 years as a professional artist, the last 12 she has worked in the public art field. She has completed large-scale projects all over the world from Italy to Hong Kong to Florida to Texas.

Mark Dziewulski's architectural firm has received numerous design awards from the American Institute of Architects. Some of his large scale projects include a national war memorial in Poland and a United Nations trade headquarters in China.

The design was selected by the Art Project Selection Committee: Sue Ann Hyde, Marnie Taylor, Carol Troy, James Pickel, Grant Humphreys, Jackie Jones, Molly Boren, Beth Tolbert, Mary Kay Audd and chaired by Mike Joseph.

"We are delighted to bring this innovative and elegant piece of public art to the Oklahoma City community," said Hershel Lamirand, OHCF president.
