Ronald McDonald House Charities® Oklahoma City benefits children by providing a ‘home away from home' for families with seriously ill or injured children receiving medical treatment in the Oklahoma City area.
Ronald McDonald House®
The Ronald McDonald House, built in 1984, is located just one block from the Oklahoma Health Center campus, at 1301 NE 14thStreet. Every day of the year the House offers a caring retreat to fourteen families with ill children, providing lodging, meals and laundry facilities in addition to many little ‘extras' that make it a home. A second fourteen bedroom House opened in 2015 located in Garrison Tower at The Children’s Hospital.
The two Houses meet many needs for families facing the anxiety of having a seriously ill child. Lodging and meals help relieve some financial worries, while the calm setting and much-needed network of compassionate support from the staff, volunteers and other families in similar circumstances help relieve some of the burden. Relieving families of these worries, enables them to devote themselves to helping their precious child get well.
Ronald McDonald Family Room®
The Ronald McDonald Family Room is located on the 6th floor of The Children's Hospital to serve as a quiet rest area for family members of children admitted to the hospital for treatment. It replicates a home-like atmosphere for parents needing a break from the "hospital environment." The Family Room is equipped with a kitchen, restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, dining area, living area, and a separate quiet room. Business/internet facilities are also available.
When a child is critically ill, parents are reluctant to leave the hospital. Yet they desperately need a break from the ongoing stress of beeping monitors and busy intensive care units.
The Family Room offers a special place of respite, relaxation and privacy within the walls of a hospital. It provides a small oasis of calm and normalcy amidst the tense, chaotic, medical setting - yet parents are just steps from their child's bedside.
