Communities Urged to Help Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect

Can you spare a couple of hours a week or month to help make a difference in the life of a child? Child advocates and the general public will be encouraged to do just that during Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Day at the State Capitol on Tuesday, April 9. From 8 a.m. till noon that day, booth displays and special activities will focus on building supportive community and family environments that help children grow and develop into productive citizens. Latest statistics from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services indicate child abuse confirmations have risen the last three years in Oklahoma, with more than 9,800 confirmations in state fiscal year 2012. OCAST funds five R&D Intern Partnerships

The University of Tulsa successfully competed for three Intern Partnerships awards and ATC New Technologies of Oklahoma City captured two of the awards funded by the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology. The five projects totaled $201,895 for up to two years.

OCAST funding will support undergraduate student internships in environmental technologies, robotics, transportation and energy. To read the entire article, click here.

Treasures For Tomorrow Honorees Announced

The Oklahoma Health Center Foundation announced five Oklahomans as its 2013 Treasures For Tomorrow honorees. A civic leader who has dedicated himself to Oklahoma City, a couple devoted to education, and a couple deeply involved with community volunteerism will be honored at the 14th annual Treasures For Tomorrow celebration scheduled for Wednesday, April 10, at the Petroleum Club in Oklahoma City. The evening starts at 6:30 p.m. with a reception followed by the awards dinner. The Jean I. Everest Foundation is the presenting sponsor.

The Treasures For Tomorrow honor pays tribute to individuals whose passion for life, courage and inspiring actions serve as a model for quality values and goodness in our community. Dave Lopez and Teresa Rose are co-chairs for the event.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oklahoma City Names Susan Adams President and CEO

The Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oklahoma City Board of Directors voted in its Feb. 9 board meeting to name Susan Adams as president and chief executive officer of the Charity. Adams has served as executive director for the past two years. To read the entire article, click here.
